A Tribute to David Jackson
Here at CamGlen Radio we want to pay tribute to a local man, David Jackson who sadly passed away on the 3rd November 2020.
David had been a regular contributor to our local history show, Halfway to Burgh; The Two Towns Local History Show. David's passion for Rutherglen and his encyclopaedic knowledge of its history, particularly as it related to the people of the town, really come across in those programmes, making them a hugely valuable audio archive to be enjoyed by anyone interested in the history of the Royal Burgh today, and by future generations.
David was the 'go-to' man for any questions relating to Rutherglen's heritage, a living archive of the town's long history. A proud Ruglonian, and a well kent figure around the town, he will be greatly missed.
Here are some programmes which David contributed to:
Rutherglen in the 1950s -
J&J White Chemicals -
Going To The Pictures -

COVID-19 update
Updated 24th March 2020
In these times of uncertainty, we’re certain of one thing - that there are lots of good people out there with great community spirit across Cambuslang and Rutherglen, and we all really need that right now. We want to provide a safe and healthy environment for all of our participants, volunteers, guests, customers and staff. So in the short term we are following government health advice and postponing or cancelling a lot of our activities. Please be assured, however, that we are still here and willing to help however we can and we know that lots of residents are too.
All our teams are planning for how we can still offer support where it is most needed in our communities – it may just be in a slightly different format. Specifically, whilst in Number 18 we have stopped running stopped running face to face events we are going to start up some of them again online and we’ll be posting which ones we are running shortly. Meantime we’re still at the end of the phone on 0141 647 5325, on social media, on e-mail or however you normally get in touch with us. For more information, please go to https://www.healthynhappy.org.uk/news-updates

The Thinking Differently Show
The young people from Healthy n Happy’s Thinking Differently Steering Group were live on CamGlen Radio on Wednesday 2nd of September from 6pm.
The group is made up of young people ( aged 14-18) from across Rutherglen and Cambuslang. They come together each week to have fun, explore different health topics and to help their community. The group started out in 2013, when they began tackling alcohol issues in communities across Rutherglen and Cambuslang. They group were involved in trialling new youth club activities for young people in Halfway and are keen to start working on new ideas soon.
This summer they have been working on a special project focusing on e-cigarettes for NHS South Lanarkshire. As young health activists, the group did their own research on e-cigs and are now ready to present their findings exclusively on Camglen radio. Listeners can also take part in the show by texting, emailing and tweeting their opinions during the show.
As well as discussing e-cigs, the show will feature music chosen by the group and amazing adverts created by other young people who have been part of the Thinking Differently project this year.
Most importantly, you can find out all the details on how YOU can become part of the group too. Listen out for details of their open night for new members on the 9th of September at CamGlen Radio’s new home Number 18!
You can listen to the show in full below.

CamGlen's Radio's new young banter crew!
The Banter Crew are a group of young people brought together via the Young One's Youth Club (Whitlawburn) and the Burnhill Childrens Action Group. They've been working together over the past few months identifying similarities in each other and their communities.
The idea for the project came about after the two youth groups expressed an interest in meeting young people from other communities.
The aim of the project was to increase awareness of their communities, enable them to take positive action on issues identified and also breakdown territorial-ism.
To complete their project the young people decided that 10 of the group members would create a radio show that would showcase all the work they've been doing whilst also demonstrating the new bonds and friendships created during the project.
Theone-off show was broadcast on Thursday 7th May, and the recording will soon be available via our Mixcloud page.
Launch Event
Thursday 19th March marks a historic day for CamGlen Radio. After being in existence for almost 10 years, the community radio station will be launching as a full time FM station. To celebrate the hard work of all the staff and volunteers that have contributed to this moment CamGlen Radio will be hosting a special launch event. Those in attendance will include all the volunteers and staff who have worked to make this moment possible, as well as some elected members from Scottish Parliament and the Council including the Provost of South Lanarkshire.
"the launch show will give you a flavour of what’s in store for listeners of CamGlen Radio"
Brought to you by two breakfast and lunch time presenters Ian Goldie and Graham Bell the launch show will give you a flavour of what’s in store for listeners of CamGlen Radio, as well as featuring a tip of the stetson to the stations history.
During the special launch party show, competition winners will be announced, including: Coverage competition, pick the first song competition and listeners will be invited to contact the station to tell us where they’re getting coverage – with another CamGlen Radio goody bag up for grabs!
Here’s to the future! Tune in from 1pm on 107.9FM or right here on camglenradio.org.
Studio Refurbishment
With CamGlen Radio being a branch of Healthy n Happy Community Development Trust the community radio station is presented with opportunities that many other stations do not have the luxury of. One opportunity that is coming up certainly fits that bill. Healthy n Happy recently purchased the church hall next to their offices and refurbishment has begun to turn the building into a community hub for the areas of Cambuslang and Rutherglen.
Within the new hub will be three purpose built studios for CamGlen Radio as well as an area to host and broadcast live performances. There are also exciting plans to open the space as a café where people will able to witness live radio broadcasts taking place or watch a band playing their latest release while they sip their coffee.
"The scope for opportunities is vast"
The scope for opportunities is vast and it’s a prospect everyone involved at the station is incredibly excited about. The studios will be ready to move into in June / July with refurbishments set to continue until well after Summer.
When move in date comes around we hope to see you there at 18 Farmeloan Road for more celebration!
Hallside Radio Show - Live on CamGlen Radio
Since CamGlen Radio's inception in 2007 we have made it our mission to involve all the schools within the local area in its broadcasting ventures. During the period in which the we ran one-month long broadcasts, schools were regularly invited in to learn radio skills and host their own radio shows.
Now that we've become a full time broadcaster, CamGlen Radio is pleased to welcome one of the schools back to host a show as part of the first weekly line-up on the station. Hallside Primary School was the first ever school to become part of the stations schools programme and they have continued using their radio skills gained from involvement with CamGlen Radio on an ongoing basis within the school.
The first live show of their weekly slot is on Thurs 26th March at 10am, and repeated at 6pm.
Expect some quality radio from Hallside Primary School's presenters of the future! (in fact, now!)
We are looking into funding opportunities so we can expand our schools programme back to it’s former glory, and our hope is that after the Summer we will be able to roll this out to all local schools. Watch this space!
